決して笑顔を絶やさずに
「いつも笑顔をたやさずに」。歌津地区寄木浜で農漁家民宿「やすらぎ」を家族で営んでいる三浦千恵子さんは、そう心に誓っている。「やすらぎ」からは、きらきら光る歌津の海が一望にできる。
東日本大震災のあの日、集落は津波に飲まれ、46戸のうち35戸が流失した。親しい人たちの家が流れていったあの光景が夢であってほしい、何度そう祈ったことか。みんなの笑顔は消えた。船も流され、すべての道が途絶し、約２週間の間、支援物資も届くことはなかった。かろうじて残った「やすらぎ」に、集落の32人が身を寄せ、助け合って生き延びた。ずっと生かしてきた井戸水が役に立った。
やがて、多くのボランティアが入り、瓦礫の撤去などが始まった。集落のために、汗まみれ、泥まみれになって作業してくれる多くの方々に、三浦さん夫婦はトイレやお風呂を提供したり、炊き出しボランティアの宿泊を受け入れるなど、厳しい環境の中で心づくしのもてなしを続けて来た。復旧工事の作業員が泊まるところもなく車で休んでいる状況に、一家は宿の増築を決心した。
震災後、日本全国、世界中からさまざまな人たちが訪れる。千恵子さんは、ボランティアの方々と記念撮影する時、必ず孫を抱く。将来、自分たちを助けてくれた世界の人たちのことを孫に伝えるためだ。
たった５分で何もかもを失った隣人たちが、再び立ち上がろうとする姿、笑顔を忘れずに懸命に生きる姿を、未来を生きる子どもたちに見てほしい、と千恵子さんは願っている。漁業のこと、緑豊かな自然のこと、歌津の海から伝えたいことはたくさんある。今も希望があれば、宿泊客に大津波の体験を語っている。
「多くの人たちに助けられたことを胸に、私たちは焦らず少しずつ努力しながら、一歩ずつ一歩ずつ生きていかなくてはならないと思います。決して笑顔を絶やさずにね。」
増築して新たなスタートを切る「やすらぎ」を、お客様がふるさとに帰って来たような感覚にひたれる宿にしたいと、千恵子さんは笑顔で語ってくれた。「やすらぎ」の周りの山には、桜、ツツジ、シャガ、アジサイ、そしてヒマワリと、花々が次々に咲き誇る。震災後も変わらぬ海里山の恵みが、千恵子さん一家を励ましてくれる。
Chieko Miura
“Never stop smiling,” Ms. Chieko Miura swears to herself. Together with her husband, they run Minshuku(Japanese B&B) “Yasuragi,” a place where you can experience agriculture/fishing.
On that day when the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred, the community of Yoriki was swallowed up by the great tsunami and 35 out of 46 houses were washed away. All the smiling faces disappeared from Yoriki. Their fishing boats were washed away, all the roads were cut off, and relief supplies did not arrive for about two weeks. Thirty two people in the community
evacuated to “Yasuragi,” which barely survived, and helped each other to stay alive.
Soon after, many volunteers came to remove the rubble and they became sweaty and muddy from their toil. The Miuras provided them with z toilet and bath, etc. and continued to show kind hospitality to everyone who came even under severe circumstances.
When taking a commemorative photo with volunteers, Chieko always holds her grandchild in her arms. This is because she wants to tell her grandchild someday about
all the people in the world who helped the people of Yoriki.
“I hope that children in the future will see the positive outlook of our neighbors who, after losing everything,
tried to rise again, and live their lives to the fullest,” Chieko expresses.
“We have to live our lives and go forward step by step with thoughts of the many people who helped us in our hearts. And, we must never stop smiling.”
