ものづくりで生きがい感じる仕事場づくり

この春、障害者の生活介護事業所「のぞみ福祉作業所」は「NOZOMI PAPER Factory」と題し、事業を展開する。
牛乳パックで製作した紙をベースに、ステンシルプリントのかわいいハガキや、町の女性たちが震災前から続けてきた「きりこプロジェクト」の絵柄をエンボス（浮き彫りのような凹凸を付ける加工）で表したハガキを主力商品として、質の高い商品を安定的に生産して行けるように事業化して行く予定だ。

震災後、同所では手作りのハガキを作り続けて来た。震災から一年あまりが経った頃、エイブルアートカンパニーと出会った。エイブルアートカンパニーは、障害のある人のアートを、デザインを通して社会に発信する活動を続けている組織。障害者の新しい仕事を作り、彼らが生きがいをもって、自分らしく生きられるように、アートやデザインを通して実現する活動を、震災後は被災地でも展開していた。カンパニーのスタッフが、利用者のみなさんが描いたさまざまな作品の可能性を引き出していった。自分が描いたものが、他者から認められることで、表現する喜びが少しずつふくらんでいった。

菅原知也さんのモアイを描いた絵は、スタイリッシュなデザインのタオルになった。知也さんはお客さんがやって来ると自ら「ぼくの絵です」と元気に主張するようになった。ハガキの売り上げは好調で、ささやかながら特別手当も支給できた。のぞみ福祉作業所のスタッフ森伸也さんは利用者のみなさんが、仕事場、仲間、収入を維持できるようにしていきたいと語る。

今回、エーブルアートカンパニーときりこプロジェクトを主催するENVISIと南三陸の女性たちの協力で、「きりこはがき」が商品として完成した。町の女性たちが南三陸のお店や家々の物語をヒントに作った絵柄をハガキにし、そのお店限定で販売してもらいお店にも手数料が入るというしくみを目指している。
「いずれは、販売しているお店のマップを作り、お店をハシゴしてもらいたい。商店の活性化にもつながればうれしい。」と森さんは期待している。

ファクトリーのメンバーは現在21人。みんなの力で、1枚1枚ていねいに作られた紙が、南三陸の心を伝える作品として、この春新たな発信を始める。

ステンシルに慎重にインクをたたいてイラストはがき完成。

のぞみ福祉作業所では、利用者たちが描いた絵のスタンプをキナリのトートバッグにスタンプしてオリジナルバッグを作る「オスタバッグ」ワークショップも南三陸福興市などに合わせて開催する予定。

“NOZOMI PAPER Factory”

This spring, a “care support office” for the physically challenged, “NOZOMI Welfare Workplace,” will start operations under the name “NOZOMI PAPER Factory.” They are planning to produce high quality commodities. Their main products will be postcards made from recycled milk cartons. Specifically, they include lovely, decorated postcards made with a stencil printing method and postcards with embossed patterns used in the KIRIKO Project that women in .Minamisanriku have been continuously engaged in since before the disaster. They are targeting a business with a steady production of high quality products.
The Able Art Company is expanding their activities to assist the physically challenged to work in the field of art and design and help them find a way to become independent. Staff members from the company visited Minamisanriku and found great potential among the various works of art drawn by the physically challenged at the NOZOMI Welfare Workplace. Attendants of the workplace are gradually finding pleasure in expressing themselves through praise from others for their work.
The sales of towels with “Moai” designs and postcards are satisfactory and a small extra allowance was paid out to the workers. Mr. Shinya Mori, a staff member of the NOZOMI Welfare Workplace says that the corporation hopes to continue operation and provide a place for communication among attendants of the workplace and maintain a sufficient level of wages for its attendants.
In February of this year, the “KIRIKO postcard” was completed as a”commercial product” under the cooperation of ENVISI, an organization that sponsors the KIRIKO Project, and Able Art Company. They are aiming to start a program in which stores would receive a commission through the limited sales of postcards with special patterns designed by the women of Minamisanriku. These designs would be based on stories of shops and .families in the town.
”In the future, we want to make a map of stores selling our products so that customers will visit the stores one by one, and this will lead to revitalizing our local businesses,” Mr. Mori says hopefully.
At present, the Factory is comprised of 21 members. The members are looking forward to a new start this spring.
